Mine Land Rehabilitation Authority (MLRA) Closure
The Mine Land Rehabilitation Authority (MLRA) will cease operations on Friday 20 March 2026.
As we approach our final day, we want to acknowledge the many partners, community members, industry representatives and stakeholders who have worked with the MLRA to support safe, sustainable and community‑focused mine rehabilitation across the Latrobe Valley.
Throughout its operation, the MLRA has played a vital role in shaping the future of mine rehabilitation in Victoria and beyond. The MLRA established itself as a global first, setting new benchmarks by drawing on international best practice while driving innovation at home. As an independent authority, it became a trusted and accessible voice – translating complex technical information into meaningful insights and facilitating the difficult conversations needed to support informed, inclusive decision‑making.
The MLRA has worked closely with Traditional Owners, government agencies, community groups, industry and special interest organisations, building bridges between diverse perspectives and strengthening understanding across sectors. Through rigorous technical review and collaboration with mine licensees and Resources Victoria, the MLRA has helped ensure rehabilitation planning remained robust, transparent and future‑focused. Its commitment to engagement, assurance, and the management of risks and opportunities ultimately supported outcomes that delivered cultural, environmental, social and economic value for the Victorian community.
Over the coming weeks, our team will complete outstanding work, transition key projects, and ensure important information remains accessible beyond the closure date. Further details about project handovers and future contact arrangements will be provided before 20 March. We thank you for your collaboration and commitment throughout the MLRA’s term of operation.
